First Rule

If I may borrow liberally from Bill Maher's "New Rule," The First Rule here at Jewels Goes to Grad School is this:  There will be swearing.

Indeed, there will be frequent use of the "F" word in all its aspects, noun, adjective, verb, whatever will work.

I am from Los Angeles where cursing is simply part of everyday language and culture and no offense is meant, but simply to emphasize. Of course, this rule is not in place at work or with your grandparents, unless they also swear.

My mother, classy woman that she was--she who loved tailored clothes, gold jewelry, and a good handbag, and always wore heels to work as a medical transcriber (she had studied for an RN, but gave it up six months before graduation to get married. You couldn't be married and in nursing school in 1961. I asked her once why she quit, and she said, "It seemed like a good idea at the time.")  She did, however, make good money as a transcriber and she was very good at it, even being promoted to supervisor. But she had a mouth like a longshoreman. I knew all the good swear words by kindergarten.

So, for me, it comes quite naturally. If you are offended (easily) by blue language, there are plenty of other nice blogs out there that won't offend your delicate sensibilities. *snort*

So welcome, and have a fucking great day!
